This week, as I prepare for the start of the holiday season, I find myself getting ready for an important style challenge as well. Dressember starts in less than 10 days, and I really want as many people to participate as possible. With that in mind, I thought I'd take some time to answer all the Dressember questions I've gotten, and try and convince you to jump on board with me!
First, what the heck IS Dressember, anyway? In a nutshell, Dressember is a month of wearing dresses every day to raise awareness and funds for victims of human trafficking. We're using our femininity to advocate for those who have been exploited for theirs. You can learn more at the Dressember Foundation's website.
Why is Apple & Pear participating? Do you really have to ask? When I started Apple & Pear it was with the belief that what we wear can change our lives, and we've also found ways to change the lives of others, too.. I can't think of a better way to combine fashion and doing good for the world.
However, beyond just doing good, wearing dresses is something I'm constantly encouraging women to do more often. Dresses make us feel powerful and put-together, and are easier than putting an outfit together. Simply put, dresses are wardrobe magic. I really want to encourage you to take the challenge of wearing dresses not only to do good for the world, but to make an impact on your style and how you feel about yourself. I guarantee a month of dresses will have you feeling like one hot mama. If you're in a rut, this just might be the kick in the pants you need to get out of it!
That's great, but what's in it for me?
Funny you should ask! In case changing the lives of women you'll never meet, and making yourself feel great isn't enough, I've put together a bunch of partners who will be doing giveaways in our VIP Facebook group, Everyday Style. The first giveaway is Dec 1, and we'll be giving away the most important thing you need for Dressember...a dress! Giveaways are only for those who are participating in the challenge.
Also, through the month of December, we'll be posting dress pics and style inspiration in our Facebook group, so don't miss it!
I'd love to, but 31 days of dresses is just too much.
Fair enough, I get it....so let me make you this deal. Instead of officially joining Apple & Pear's Dressember team (and fundraising on your own), decide how many days of December you'll commit to wearing dresses, and donate $1 or $2 for each day. So, if you'll commit to wearing dresses $15 days, donate at least $15 to my fundraising goal. Everyone who commits to wearing more dresses in December and donates at least $15 is eligible for the giveaways.
I don't have enough dresses to participate, what do I do?
If, and only if, you wanted more dresses in your wardrobe anyway, I'd suggest picking up a couple. Here are a whole bunch I'm loving lately.
Use what you've got! Get creative with layering pieces like cardigans, jackets and scarves to change up your look (and make warm weather dresses work), or...
Borrow! Ask your girlfriends who are around your size if you can borrow a dress for a week or two. Tell them what you're doing--I'm sure they'll help out.
Finally, simply commit to wearing the dresses you do have more often. It's perfectly fine to repeat outfits--and for a good cause like this, it's more than ok!
Giveaways, doing good, and looking awesome? I'm in! Where do I sign up?
Check out Apple & Pear's team page for all the details you need.
There are a few ways you can participate:
Officially join the team, wear dresses for 31 days, and commit to fundraising. There's going to be a giveaway at the end JUST for official team members.
Commit to wearing dresses more often, and donate at least $15 to my fundraising effort. This will get you in for most giveaways, and will be a major style boost for you.
Simply donate. Dresses not your thing? No biggie. We'd love your tax-deductible donation.
Share. This would be SO helpful. Please consider sharing this blog post, or the team page, and thank you in advance!
Happy Dressember, everyone!
